Stand Out From the Sea of Sameness

What does it really mean to stand out from the sea of sameness?

The concept of standing out, standing above, standing apart from, or even how to transcend the sea of sameness has been a marketing thing for a long time. There have been books and even courses about this mysterious sea of sameness and why you absolutely do not want your brand or company's voice to become part of it.

I like the concept. In fact, it's been our tagline for a long time.

To me, it's more than a tagline. It's also a promise that when you work with us you're going to get something special.

But what does standing out from the sea of sameness actually mean? After all, there's a lot of ways to stand out and not all of them are positive.

I think standing out from the sea of sameness implies courage. You'd maybe be surprised at how many potential clients come to us and tell me they want to copy what their competitor has done. That's not courageous, unless you have your own spin on things.

I think standing out from the sea of sameness takes a certain confidence in who you are. This can be hard. Especially when your voice is still developing. Most are.

Above all, when you're willing to stand above the sea of sameness it tells me you're not just about the work.

You're also about the results.

If that's you? Then you're my kind of people. Nice to meet you.
